Liberal plan offers real, progressive change for all Canadians

TORONTO – Liberals are offering a strong, progressive plan for change that will grow the economy, strengthen the middle class, and give all Canadians a real and fair chance at success, said the Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today.

“Canadians of all stripes want what’s best for their country. Speaking with voters across Canada, one thing remains clear: we can’t afford another ten years like the last ten years. We need progressive change now,” said Mr. Trudeau. “Thomas Mulcair made the wrong choice – to eliminate Stephen Harper’s deficit at all costs rather than invest and give families the help they need now. His minimum wage increase would help less than one percent of Canada’s minimum wage earners. We listened when Canadians told us what matters. Together we built one of the most progressive platforms in recent history.”

The Liberal Party has a real, immediate plan to grow the middle class and deliver positive change for all Canadians. A new Liberal government will introduce, as its very first Bill in Parliament, a tax cut for the middle class, so that Canadians see more money on their paycheques right away. We will also introduce the Canada Child Benefit – one bigger, fair, tax-free, automatic, monthly child benefit – in our very first budget. Nine out of ten Canadian families will be better off under our plan than under Stephen Harper’s. Liberals will ensure that middle class Canadians have more money in their pockets to save, invest, and grow the economy, because when they do, we all benefit.

“The Liberal Party is the only party being straight with Canadians about what we need to do to accomplish real, substantive change,” said Mr. Trudeau. “We must invest in our future and help people now. We can’t wait to grow our economy and create jobs. Harper wants Canadians to believe that better isn’t possible and Mulcair wants us to believe that change can wait. On October 19th, together we can prove them wrong.”
