Liberal statement on Russian sanctions

OTTAWA – Liberal Foreign Affairs Critic, Marc Garneau, issued the following statement today on the sanctions imposed by the Russian Federation against Liberal Members of Parliament:

“This announcement from the Russia Federation is clearly an attempt to shift the focus away from its unwarranted and aggressive interference in the affairs of Ukraine. We are proud of our Liberal MPs who are standing in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. We will never cease in our efforts to secure democracy and human rights for all people.

“We will continue to vocally support international peace and security in the region. The future of Ukraine must be determined by Ukrainians, as a free people.

“We support a peaceful and stable transition to democracy without external interference.

“We urge the Canadian government to work with our allies to continue to apply pressure on Russia with the goal of deescalating the situation.”
