Liberals call for end to Harper’s wasteful government spending

OTTAWA – Under the Conservatives, Canadians have witnessed tens of billions in wasteful spending, and a future Liberal government today committed to ending Stephen Harper’s irresponsible use of taxpayer dollars.
“Mr. Harper’s Conservatives have an absolutely startling record of fiscal mismanagement,” said Liberal MP Adam Vaughan. “As we approach the federal election, it is vitally important that Canadians are provided with a full understanding of the choices and priorities of this Prime Minister.”
After a decade in power, an entitled Conservative Party has no qualms about misusing taxpayer dollars. The list is long, including: $757 million on partisan government advertising; $10 billion annually on outside consultants; millions wasted on court challenges, including attempts to deny veterans their benefits and health care to refugees; $7 million on photo shoots and backdrops; and $21 million auditing many of Mr. Harper’s Senate appointments.
“This government believes that the public purse is a personal ATM,” said Mr. Vaughan. “Liberals are committed to ending Mr. Harper’s waste. In the upcoming election, Canadians will have the option of a better, Liberal government that will offer a sound plan and real fiscal responsibility.”
