Liberals Re-Opened Veterans Offices Closed By Harper and O’Toole
August 27, 2021
“The Harper Government’s record on veterans support is fraught with letting down Canadians who fought for this country,” said Gudie Hutchings, Liberal Candidate for Long Range Mountains. “He took a slash and burn approach to Veterans Offices around the country, including the Corner Brook Veterans Office in my riding.”
To switch the channel, Stephen Harper shuffled in Erin O’Toole as the Veterans Affairs Minister who, unsurprisingly, did no better. Offices remained closed and veterans got stuck in a bureaucracy with no one to advocate for them.
“When he had an opportunity, Erin O’Toole could have stood up and demanded those offices to reopen,” continued Hutchings, “but instead he turned his back and let veterans fall through the cracks.”
It’s a pattern for the Conservative Party, including Erin O’Toole, to make cuts to services instead of helping people.
In 2016, the Trudeau government came in and not only reopened ALL 9 offices shut down by the Harper government, but created an additional one.
