Liberals release new series of Ads: Erin O’Toole would take Canada backward

Ottawa, Ontario – Today, the Liberal Party of Canada released a series of new English language ads to outline the clear choice Canadians face in this election: move forward for everyone with the Liberal plan, or let Erin O’Toole take Canada back.

Thursday’s French language debate proved Erin O’Toole is willing to say anything to Canadians to get elected. He lied to Canadians about his plans to scrap the Liberal ban on assault weapons, he couldn’t answer a direct question on his plans to scrap 37,000 child care spaces in Quebec, and he repeatedly refused to say whether he would open the door to bringing more privatization to our healthcare system. And yesterday, he couldn’t answer questions on whether he would let his Conservative caucus re-open the abortion debate in Canada.

Canadians deserve to know where their party Leaders stand. These new ads show Erin O’Toole, in his own words, detailing how he would ‘take Canada back.’ The ads also demonstrate the stark choice that Canadians face in this election. Only the Liberal team will move Canada forward to finish the fight against COVID-19, and build a safer and healthier Canada for everyone.

Erin O’Toole would:

  • Make assault weapons legal again and put more than 1,500 types of dangerous weapons back on our streets;
  • Allow unvaccinated people to travel on planes, trains, and cruise ships;
  • Let his Conservative caucus bring forward legislation that would re-open the abortion debate in Canada;
  • Make devastating cuts to the CBC; and
  • Bring in more privatization to Canada’s health care system.

A re-elected Liberal government will move forward – for everyone. We will:

  • Finish the fight against COVID-19 and get the job done on vaccines to build a stronger universal, public health care system;
  • Deliver $10 a day child care across Canada and support the creation of new child care spaces and better working conditions for early childhood educators in Quebec.
  • Help Canadians own a home of their own by saving first time home buyers up to $30,000, helping 1.4 million families find a home, and protecting the rights of Canadians and taking action against speculators;
  • Keep our communities safe by toughening our laws on banned assault weapons and supporting provinces and territories who implement a ban on handguns across their jurisdiction; and
  • Accelerate climate action to create new jobs and build a cleaner future for all Canadians.

Erin O’Toole says he wants to take Canada back – back to private, for profit healthcare, back to when assault weapons were legal, back to MPs pushing anti-abortion laws, and back to denial and inaction on climate change. Canadians can’t let Erin O’Toole take Canada backward. We have to move forward – for everyone.
