Mulcair cannot pay for his promises, won’t help the middle class

MONTREAL – Thomas Mulcair has broken major promises, delayed and underfunded needed help for the middle class, and embraced Harper’s cuts.
“Thomas Mulcair’s decision to adopt Harper’s budget and eliminate the deficit at any cost means his promises are meaningless. He can’t pay for multi-billion dollar promises on transit, child care, health care, and more,” said Liberal candidate for Honoré-Mercier, Pablo Rodriguez. “Mulcair is trying to mislead Canadians into believing that help is on the way immediately. In fact, the NDP’s signature promises – like child care and public transit – are back-loaded, delayed for years, and significantly underfunded.”
“Today, they admitted that just two weeks ago, they used grossly flawed numbers for their costing. The NDP is making it up as it goes along. The NDP used Stephen Harper’s budget framework from April, pretending the economy hadn’t deteriorated since then. They completely ignored the Bank of Canada, the PBO, IMF, OECD, and everyone who said the economy had deteriorated. It was a huge mistake,” said Liberal candidate for Markham—Thornhill, John McCallum. “These were glaring errors. Even Kevin Page called the NDP’s costing ‘swiss-cheese’.”
“Thomas Mulcair isn’t offering real change from Stephen Harper. His political experience has only taught him to play politics with everything,” said Liberal candidate for Ahuntsic–Cartierville, Mélanie Joly. “Only Justin Trudeau is offering real change now. Canadians have a clear choice in this election between the Liberal Party’s plan for smart investments that create jobs and growth, or Harper’s and Mulcair’s cuts that will slow down our economy even further.”
