O’Toole’s Conservative Platform will Cut Childcare, Legalize Assault Style Weapons and Cut Services
August 16, 2021
Statement by National Campaign Co-Chair Melanie Joly and National Platform Committee Co-Chair Mona Fortier.
Ottawa, ON – Today, Erin O’Toole released his plan to take Canada backward with cuts to services that make life more affordable for Canadians. At a time when Canadians deserve federal leadership that has their best interest at heart, O’Toole would leave Canadians to fend for themselves.
Canadians know that vaccinations are the key to us getting back to normal, but O’Toole will dismantle plans to ensure federal workers are vaccinated as well as travelers on planes and trains.
Instead of keeping our communities safe from gun and gang violence, O’Toole will ignore the advice of doctors and police and keep his backroom promises to the gun lobby. By promising to repeal the assault-style weapons ban and remove lifetime background checks, O’Toole is putting our communities and first responders at risk.
O’Toole and his party would rather pay polluters than listen to science. Erin O’Toole’s proposal would do less, cost more, and leave Canadian families with less money in their pockets.
O’Toole’s Conservatives plan for healthcare would exclude the most vulnerable. By continuing to allow his party to bring forward proposals to strip fundamental rights from women and refusing to fund reproductive healthcare services in rural and remote communities.
O’Toole’s plan includes billions in secret cuts. In a time when Canadians deserve federal leadership that has their best interest in mind, O’Toole would leave Canadians to fend for themselves. Canadians have a clear choice: move forward to build a better future, or let the Conservatives take us backward. The Liberal Party is moving forward – for everyone.
