Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Franco-Ontarian Day
September 25, 2015
BRAMPTON, ON – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Franco-Ontarian Day:
“Today, I join in celebrating the vibrant cultural and linguistic heritage of Franco-Ontarians, a proud and dynamic community that exemplifies the rich diversity that makes our country such a great place to live. This year, we also remember with pride the inaugural raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag in 1975, four decades ago.
“For 400 years, Franco-Ontarians have fought to preserve their identity, language, and culture. Today, they protect and promote their heritage with pride and passion, to be passed on to future generations. Representing the largest French-speaking community in Canada outside of Quebec, more than 600,000 Francophones call Ontario home. I have had the opportunity to live in Ontario and I have experienced – first hand – the formative impact of the Franco-Ontarian community in this great province.
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, Sophie and I extend our very best wishes to the entire Franco-Ontarian community.”
