Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Imamat Day
July 10, 2015
OTTAWA – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the occasion of Imamat Day:
“We join with Shia Ismaili Muslims in Canada and around the world to celebrate the anniversary of the ascension of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV to the Throne of Imamat.
“This is a special occasion to show gratitude to His Highness for a lifetime of service and global leadership. As the spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, he has worked tirelessly to alleviate poverty, expand humanitarian aid and development, and support peace and pluralism for the common good of citizens in every corner of the world, regardless of their origin or religion.
“Over the years, Canada has come to share a close relationship with the Aga Khan; one based on diversity, friendship, understanding, and respect. Indeed, the values promoted by His Highness are deeply held in our country, where multiculturalism and peaceful co-existence are hallmarks of our civil society. I am honoured to call him a friend and mentor, and pleased to celebrate this milestone with him.
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I extend my best wishes to all Ismaili Muslims across Canada on this very special day. Khushiali Mubarak!”
