Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Pakistan’s Independence Day
August 14, 2015
OTTAWA – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement in recognition of Pakistan’s Independence Day:
“Today, those who trace their roots to Pakistan commemorate 68 years of the country’s independence. I join with members of Canada’s Pakistani community as they come together in celebration of their vibrant heritage and culture.
“This day serves as an excellent opportunity for all Canadians to acknowledge our many shared values – values including hard work, community, tradition, and our ability to come together when facing challenges. On this day, we pay tribute to the important contributions that Pakistani-Canadians have made to our country, where we recognize that we are stronger not in spite of our differences, but precisely because of them.
“On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada, Sophie and I extend our very best wishes to all those observing Pakistan’s Independence Day.”
