Statement by Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau on Asian Heritage Month
May 1, 2013
OTTAWA– Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau made the following statement today on Asian Heritage Month:
“Today marks the beginning of a month of festivities across Canada to celebrate the tremendous history and contributions Asian Canadians have made to our great country.
This is an occasion to recognise the distinctive role Asian communities have played in the settlement and growth of Canada, and the ongoing positive influence they have today.
Since former Liberal Senator Vivienne Poy led the way in establishing the first Asian Heritage Month in 2002, Canadians have increasingly come together to learn about the many exceptional achievements of Asian Canadians. It has only been through the diversity and vibrancy of our country that we have built a caring and compassionate Canada.
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary Caucus, I would like to extend my very best wishes to all Canadians this Asian Heritage Month.”
