Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Imamat Day
July 11, 2014
OTTAWA – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Imamat Day:
“Today, on Imamat Day, Ismailis in Canada and around the world come together to celebrate the anniversary of the ascension of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV to the Throne of Imamat.
“For Ismailis, Imamat Day is a central pillar of their faith and community. The Aga Khan serves not only as a spiritual leader for the Ismaili community, but as a global leader in humanitarian aid and development aimed at supporting the world’s most vulnerable.
“The Aga Khan has long shared a special relationship with Canada. Over the years, His Highness has been diligent in promoting dialogue, inclusivity, and mutual respect between Canada’s diverse cultural communities. The values promoted by the Aga Khan are deeply held here in Canada, where multiculturalism is enshrined in our Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
“His Highness’ close bond with Canadians was evident during his recent visit here, when I had the honour of joining my colleagues to hear his address in the House of Commons.
“I would like to extend my best wishes to His Highness and the entire Ismaili-Canadian community on this very special day. Kushiali Mubarak!”
