Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Israel’s Independence Day

TORONTO – The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement to mark Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s national day of independence:
“I would like to extend my best wishes to Israelis and members of Canada’s Jewish community who are celebrating the 66th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel.
“Since Canada first recognized Israel’s independence in 1948, our two countries have shared an enduring bond of friendship. This relationship has been and will continue to be founded on our shared commitment to peace and democracy.
“On this anniversary, we renew our commitment to a safe and secure homeland for the Jewish people and to a lasting peace between all peoples in the Middle East.”
