Statement by Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau on Polish Independence Day
November 11, 2013
OTTAWA– The Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, made the following statement today on the occasion of Polish Independence Day:
“Today, Poles around the world will be commemorating the 95th anniversary of Poland’s independence in 1918, following 123 years of occupation.
“Polish Independence Day celebrates the strength and resiliency of the Polish people, who for centuries have fought to maintain their nation’s sovereignty. Today, their efforts have led to a free, united Poland, with a rich and vibrant cultural legacy.
“This heritage has been shared with all Canadians through the nearly one million people of Polish descent who call Canada home. For more than a century, Polish Canadians have contributed to the shaping of a strong, diverse and prosperous Canada. Their contributions are proof that Canada is great not in spite of its diversity, but because of it.
“I am delighted to extend my best wishes to all those celebrating Polish Independence Day.”
