Taxpayers foot the bill for Joe Oliver’s expensive tastes
October 15, 2015
Oliver charged taxpayers for a $16 rooftop beverage, thousands for exclusive flight and hotel upgrades
OTTAWA – Joe Oliver’s $16 glass of scotch – charged to taxpayers – shows Stephen Harper hasn’t learned anything since Bev Oda quit over a $16 dollar orange juice.
Last Saturday, Joe Oliver was in Toronto, exalting the virtues of budgetary restraint – but it was all for show, as Oliver’s expensive tastes charged to taxpayers come to light.
Documents obtained through Access to Information reveal Oliver spent:
- $1,625 for two nights at the Vancouver Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel, including exclusive “Fairmont Gold” rooms
- $16 US for a scotch or vodka at the Mamilla Hotel in Jerusalem
- A whopping $6,710.55 for a flight to Calgary (WestJet is offering flights to Calgary this month at just $569)
- $729 per night hotel rooms in the Swiss Alps
- More than $12,000 on a flight
- $109 on a single phone call
The list of luxurious hotels Mr. Oliver has stayed in on the taxpayers’ dime notably include the Waldorf Astoria in New York, the Millennium and Savoy in London, and the Four Seasons Beijing.
Let’s hope Mr. Oliver enjoyed his drink, because Canadians are the ones having to foot the bill for his lavish tastes.
Stephen Harper and Joe Oliver are totally out of touch with hard-working Canadians.
