Mulcair made headlines for climate inaction, tried to export water, and sell-off parkland
MONTREAL – Thomas Mulcair failed as Quebec Environment Minister. Mulcair advocated for the mass export of fresh water, tried to sell off pristine parkland, and made headlines for his inaction on greenhouse gases.
- Mulcair made headlines for climate change inaction – “Quebec takes flak for tardy plan on Kyoto” (Montreal Gazette, November 28, 2005)
- Mulcair repeatedly advocated for the mass privatization and export of water – Mulcair denied it in the last two debates, but the videos show the truth.
- Mulcair wanted to privatize pristine parkland – According to Mulcair’s former colleagues, he argued for the sale of Mont-Orford Park to private interests. (La Presse, September 19, 2015)
- Mulcair makes working with the provinces the centrepiece of his plan, something the NDP recently criticized – In June, the NDP called working with the provinces “half-baked”. (Globe and Mail, June 30, 2015)
Only Justin Trudeau has a plan for real change to take strong action to fight climate change, put a price on carbon pollution, and work with provinces and territories on this important issue.
Liberals are committed to the creation of national emissions-reduction targets, informed by the best economic and scientific analysis. These targets must recognize the economic cost and catastrophic impact that a greater-than two-degree increase in average global temperatures would represent, as well as the necessity for Canada to do its part to prevent that from happening.
