Week three: Liberals announce new measures to grow economy and middle class
August 21, 2015
OTTAWA – During week three on the campaign trail, Justin Trudeau made a number of announcements focused on growing the economy and strengthening the middle class. Liberals are committed to cutting taxes for the middle class and giving families a bigger benefit to help with the high cost of raising their kids.
On Saturday, Mr. Trudeau attended the 2015 LiUNA Local 183 Family Day Event in Toronto, where he reaffirmed a Liberal government’s commitment to working with Canada’s labour movement to create good-paying jobs and grow the economy.
Sunday afternoon saw Mr. Trudeau participate in both the Montreal pride parade and the Indian Independence Day parade. A Liberal government will continue to stand up for the values upon which Canada was founded: diversity, acceptance, liberty, and mutual respect.
Liberals understand that the middle class is the heart of our economy. That is why, on Monday, Mr. Trudeau was in Ajax, Ontario to announce the Liberal plan to deliver real change for Canadians – with a tax cut for the middle class, and a new, bigger, tax-free, monthly child benefit to help parents with the high costs of raising their kids.
Mr. Trudeau met with Canadians in Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie on Tuesday, where he discussed how a Liberal government will support sustainable growth and create clean jobs. We will invest $200 million more annually to create sector specific strategies in clean technologies. He also pledged to provide economic support for clean tech producers tackling Canada’s most pressing environmental challenges.
On Wednesday, Mr. Trudeau was in Winnipeg and Vancouver, outlining the Liberal plan to give modern working families more choice in parental leave and flexible work arrangements.
Finally, Mr. Trudeau yesterday announced that a Liberal government will provide better support for caregivers by making caregiving benefits more flexible and accessible to any Canadian providing care to a seriously ill family member.
