Meet Doug Hamilton.

Fisherman. Entrepreneur. Resident of Gabriola Island, British Columbia. And most recently, winner of our Win a BBQ Dinner with Justin contest.

Doug did what over 5,000 Canadians did in the last two weeks of June: He pitched in what he could to be part of the change.

On Thursday, July 25, that donation turned into an extraordinary experience for me as I got to meet Doug, and his four guests: Doug’s sisters, Mariah and Jane, and Jane’s husband and son, Bob and Colin.

Let me tell you, there is nothing like a backyard barbecue on a sunny July afternoon to make fast friends.

Over burgers, salads, and even some fresh salmon that Doug himself caught, we got to know each other and talked about the Canada we are building, together, through hope and hard work.

I was thrilled. Doug is a supporter who signed up during the leadership race. He registered and voted. And in June he made his first donation.

I hope I can count on Doug to get more involved as we approach the next election, just like I hope I can count on you.

So let me say again, thank you, sincerely, for giving, and for everything you’ve done to get us here.
