In Their Own Words: Conservatives Question Climate Change
October 3, 2013
Stephen Harper’s Environment Minister, Leona Aglukkaq, is questioning the science of climate change. When asked in an interview about disappearing sea ice and the impact of climate change in the North – where her riding is located – the Minister stated: “There’s always debate around science and what’s changing.” (CTV News Power Play, October 2, 2013.)
Only days ago the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its report confirming that the international scientific community is 95 percent certain that human activity is the “dominant cause” of global warming.
Scientists in Ms. Aglukkaq’s own department have warned that the impacts of global warming are larger and will continue at a more rapid rate in Canada than worldwide.
This is the second time in recent days that Mr. Harper has had to answer for his Ministers’ alarming comments. Canadians deserve to know: does the Prime Minister agree with his Environment Minister’s view on climate change?
