Working together to make the Liberal Party more open than ever before
April 4, 2016
Last month I shared with you the first results of the survey where Liberals offered their ideas to build a Liberal movement that is more open, unified, innovative, and engaging. We were blown away by the response!
In contrast to recent Conservative moves to put up walls on engagement with $25 membership fees, over 96% of Liberal survey respondents called for steps to open up party membership more broadly – and over 91% of Liberal survey respondents supported a move to one constitution.
That speaks to our values – and our goal of becoming the most open and engaging political movement in Canadian history.
Representing Liberals from every province, territory, and Commission, your National Board met with the Prime Minister in Halifax this weekend to discuss your ideas and build them into a proposed new Liberal constitution.
Whether it’s transitioning membership to the idea of simply registering as a Liberal (for free), or opening up a more flexible policy process to new technologies and ideas, the proposed new constitution is an exciting move to modernize our party for the 21st century.
We will be releasing it shortly, and it will be considered by all delegates at the 2016 Liberal Biennial convention in Winnipeg, from May 26-28. Both the Prime Minister and I look forward to hearing more of your ideas about how we make our party and movement more open than ever before.
Thank you again for your ideas and input, and if you haven’t yet done so, please sign up to be a delegate at the Winnipeg Biennial convention.
Thanks for everything you do,
Anna Gainey
